Collection: ANNA DOUGLAS SMITH

Anna Douglas Smith was born and raised in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She graduated from Sewanee: The University of the South, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art and Art History.

After moving to Jackson, Wyoming five years ago, Smith dedicated her artistic practice to examining how humans not only live in the valley of Jackson Hole but also live with it.

Through a mixture of painting and drawing, Smith creates two-dimensional experiences that blend imagery from both the man-made world of Jackson Hole—designed and constructed for human use—and the natural world of the valley, which has long existed and functioned independently of human influence.

By visually merging these realms, Smith aims to both honor and question how they overlap and resist one another, particularly within a town shaped by tourism. Smith currently resides in Jackson, Wyoming, where she continues to study her surroundings and produce new work on a daily basis.
