Andrea Jane: Fish Ornament

Andrea Jane Phizackerley is an artist living in Jackson, Wyoming. She received her BFA in ceramics from the University of Oregon, and has found inspiration in the mountains, forests, oceans, and deserts with a special emphasis on the little things that often go overlooked. Her artwork is instilled with a love of nature's brilliant organization and chaos.

Process: Each piece is unique in the sculpture and firing process. The firing process is a saggar fire, which holds its appeal due to its natural and earthy characteristics. A saggar fire is a contained box in a kiln filled with combustibles that mark the sculptures in unique ways with smoke. Each piece has to be made from a white clay and hand burnished in order for the smoke to mark the clay. The final process is a wax polish and a burnish.
