Laura Drew: Mist
14 x 14 inch encaustic on panel
Laura Drew is a self taught encaustic artist. She lives in Jackson Hole, Wyoming where much of her body of work is inspired by nature.
Encaustic painting is a centuries-old technique, though many people are not familiar with it. Encaustic medium is created with beeswax and pigments that are melted together and then painted usually onto wood then the layers are fused together with a torch or heat gun. The wax layers can be transparent or opaque, smooth or textured. It can be combined with most other artistic mediums like oils, pastels, and ink.
Painting with beeswax is challenging and it often creates what it wants- a lesson in happy accidents that remind Laura to live in the moment!
